Purchasing care and support

Why you might choose to pay for private care, and where to find providers

Why you might pay for private care or support

You might decide to pay for your own care or support such as:

  • help around the house, sometimes called domiciliary care
  • support accessing the community and activities, such as personal assistants
  • short breaks - sometimes called respite care

Finding a provider

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulates health and social care.

You can search for care or support providers on the CQC website.

Make sure to check:

  • they are a registered provider
  • their inspection report

This will help you decide whether they are a provider you wish to employ.
