Parental preference
For those children with an EHCP, transport is agreed to the nearest suitable school that can meet a child’s needs as determined by Essex County Council.
When a parent or carer exercises parental preference and chooses a school further away than the nearest suitable school, the Council can name that school. However, they can state that this is not the nearest suitable school and as such you will be asked to sign a transport disclaimer.
Where a child is not eligible for transport, you as the parent/carer takes on financial responsibility for getting your child to and from school.
