What the plan should include
The plan includes looking at the child or young person’s
- aspirations
- motivation
- strengths
- what they like about themselves
- what is important to and for the child or young person
- what works for the child or young person
- any support required
The child or young person’s hopes, dreams and aspirations should be the starting point of the planning process. These aspirations may change over time.
The plan should always link back to aspirations. Each step builds on the information gathered in the previous step. Professionals refer to this as the Golden Thread.
One Planning should also include allowing others to share what they like and admire about a child or young person.
A one-page profile can be a useful tool to support with this.
