Whether you're moving in or out, you will need to get in touch with the right SEND Operations Team for your area.
Find the SEND Operations Team for your area
Moving to Essex
If your child has an Education, Health and Care plan, this must move from your previous local authority to Essex.
You need to:
- tell your old authority that you are moving as soon as possible. Provide them with the date of your move and your new address
- ask that they arrange for the EHCP to transfer to Essex
- tell the Essex SEND Operations Team in advance that you are going to be moving into the area
If you’re in the process of an EHC needs assessment, your old authority must transfer all the information and advice received.
Essex has 6 weeks to tell you that the EHCP has transferred, and when we’re going to review it.
Moving within Essex
If you’re moving but staying in Essex, you must tell the Essex SEND Operations Team and give them the new address. This is so that they can send any information about the EHCP to the right place.
Your child may not receive free transport if the school named in their EHCP is not the nearest suitable school.
The school or college named in the plan may no longer be suitable, for example because it’s too far away. In this case Essex will arrange for them to attend another school.
Moving out of Essex
If you’re moving out of Essex, we can transfer your EHCP to your new local authority.
You need to tell the Essex SEND Operations Team in advance that you are going to be moving out of Essex. Provide them with the date of your move and your new address
