The Greenwell Academy

The Greenwell Academy will provide a residential special school for children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties, aged 7 to 16, in Harlow. The school has opened on a temporary site, with the permanent site due to open in 2025.

The Greenwell Academy is a purpose built special school in Harlow offering a nurturing, inclusive environment for 64 pupils with SEMH and associated needs with residential provision for 15 pupils. 

The school has opened on a temporary site on Commonside Road in Harlow, admitting 16 pupils over 2 years. The new permanent school is due to open in September 2025.

Eligibility

To apply to a special school, a pupil must have:

  • an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
  • complex, high needs that cannot be met in a mainstream setting.

How to access

Pupils are placed at Greenwell Academy by the Local Authority through the EHCP process.

For a child to be admitted, the school must be named, by their home local authority, in the child’s Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
