The Hawthorns is a special school for children with autism, aged 7-16, in the centre of Chelmsford.
How it can help
The Hawthorn works with children and young people who have autism and complex learning difficulties. All pupils have a need to develop their social communication skills and require adaptations to engage with learning.
The Hawthorns is a day school but has 10 residential places for pupils in KS3 and KS4.
Age
7 to 16 years
Eligibility
To apply to a special school, a pupil must have:
- an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- complex, high needs that cannot be met in a mainstream setting.
How to access
Pupils are placed at the Hawthorns School by the Local Authority through the EHCP process.
For a child to be admitted, the school must be named, by their home local authority, in the child’s Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Further information on admissions to The Hawthorns can be found on the school’s website.
