How it can help

National Citizens Service offers young people different types of experiences which:

  • boost their confidence
  • develop strengths and new skills
  • build resilience
  • support new friendships

The experiences on offer include:

  • five day residential opportunities 
  • opportunities in the local community 
  • an online option

Age

16 and 17 year olds, or up to 24 if they meet the eligiblity criteria.

Eligibility

National Citizen Service opportunities are for 16 and 17 year olds. Young people who are 18 or older can take part if they:

  • have an Education, Health, and Care Plan
  • are moving towards leaving the care of your local authority
  • receive statutory support

Cost

The community and online experiences are free of charge. An away from home experience is £95. Young people will be eligible for a bursary to cover the cost of an away from home experience if they:

  • are in care or have been in care 
  • have an Education, Health and Care Plan
  • are a young carer
  • are in receipt of free school meals
  • live in a household in receipt of Universal Credit
