A team of professionals who support the diagnosis and management of ADHD in adults
How it can help
The aims and objectives of the service are:
- provide a service for young people in transition (from Community paediatrics AMHS services) who require on-going monitoring/management of ADHD and do not have any complex mental health problems
- provide assessment by a psychologist or mental health professional with specialist training and knowledge of ADHD
- prescribe pharmacological treatment and advice for ADHD
- provide psychosocial support groups offering strategies around psychological, lifestyle, behavioural and educational or occupational needs
- liaise with social and occupational services where appropriate
- offer training and help raise awareness of adult ADHD amongst other professionals
Staff within the service include psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses and pharmacists.
Age
18+ or individuals who are 17 but would turn 18 by the time of initial appointment.
Eligibility
Adults with ADHD or are suspected to have ADHD who are either:
- registered with a North East Essex or West Essex GP Practice
- a resident in North East Essex or West Essex and who are not registered with a GP Practice such as homeless people, travelling community and refugees
How to access
Referral from a healthcare professional required, usually this would be a GP or another professional who has conducted a sufficient assessment of ADHD symptoms.
The healthcare professional is required to send a referral form alongside two screening tools (WEISS and WENDER) to the local Single Point of Access or Care Co-ordination Centre.
