Provides support to individuals who have a speech, language, communication, voice or swallowing problem.
How it can help
The North East Speech and Language Therapy team work with those who:
- have difficulty swallowing food or drink
- cough or choke when eating or drinking
- have unexplained repeated chest infections
- are already on a modified diet or fluids due to swallowing difficulties that require review
- have communication difficulties that impact functional daily living
- have voice difficulties, such as dysfluency
- wish to have transgender voice therapy
They provide:
- assessment of needs
- 1:1 and group therapy
- practical advice
- education and self-management advice for individuals, their carers and family
- communication aids or onward referral for specialist equipment when clinically required
Individuals can be seen at various clinics in North East Essex, or within their own home.
Age
16+
Eligibility
Individuals who are registered with a North East GP or are an inpatient at Harwich or Clacton Community Hospital, or carers who require advice on alternative communication systems.
If the person being referred has a registered Learning Disability, referrals should be directed to the Learning Disabilities Speech and Language Therapy Service

Referral from a health care professional (such as a GP) or social care professional required.
