NHS - Children's Learning Disability Service

Provides functional assessments of behaviour which challenges families of children with moderate to severe learning disabilities

How it can help

The Children's Learning Disability Service provides assessments of behaviour which may include:

  • aggressive or self-injurious behaviour
  • sensory processing problems
  • inappropriate sexualised behaviours
  • emotional wellbeing
  • anger management issues
  • sleep problems

Assessments will typically take place within clinic venues that are within a reasonable distance of the child's home. Where this is not possible, assessments may be offered within the home or school environment.

The team provide services on an individual or group-basis, for children and for parents. They offer a blend of face-to-face and virtual support and tailor plans of care to an individual's needs, and work together with families and other agencies to effect behavioural change with the ultimate goal of keeping children at home with their families.
