NHS - Children's Specialist Health Visiting Service - Basildon, Brentwood and Thurrock

Provides advice, support, and assessment to families of children with additional or suspected additional needs

How it can help

The Children's Specialist Health Visiting Service develop and deliver care pathways for children with additional needs and their families. 

They are a skill mixed team, including:

  • Specialist Health Visitors - qualified nurses with additional qualifications and experience relating to the complexity and special needs of children and the impact this has on the individual and wider family. They help develop and deliver care pathways for children with additional needs, offering advice, support, and assessment
  • Nursery Nurses - trained in child development and observation and have acquired additional skills through experience and training. They can assist in the delivery of care pathways for children with additional needs, offering advice, support and interventions to children and their families

Age

0 to 19

Eligibility

Children and young people who are registered with a GP in Basildon or Brentwood and have complex health care needs with impairment in at least two areas of development, including:

  • life limiting health conditions
  • severe learning difficulties or profound multiple difficulties
  • physical difficulties or conditions
  • global developmental delay
  • social and communication difficulties
  • diagnosed social and communication disorders

How to access

Referral from a professional required, such as:

  • teacher 
  • preschool staff
  • health visitor
  • GP
  • therapist 
  • social worker
