Supports children and young people to promote positive outcomes for children who are referred to the service with communication or physical eating and drinking needs
How it can help
The support the Speech and Language team can provide includes:
- an initial assessment of your child's needs
- an individually tailored therapy programme to target the problem area(s)
- 1:1 therapy
Their therapy sessions are always child-centred, and they mostly work through the medium of play.
They work with children who may be presenting with the following conditions:
- difficulties with using speech sounds (including delayed and disordered speech sound development, and verbal dyspraxia).
- delay or difficulties with understanding and using spoken language
- dysfluency (stuttering/stammering)
- social communication difficulties/ASD
- cleft Palate and velopharyngeal dysfunction
- hearing impairment
- dysphagia
Age
0 to 18 or up to 19 years if in a North East Essex Special School
Eligibility
Children and young people who are registered with a North East Essex GP or attending a North East special school
How to access
Referral from a professional required, including:
- school staff
- GPs
- paediatrician
- health visitor
- HIS nurse
