NHS - Community Paediatricians - West Essex

A group of doctors who provide assessment, diagnosis and management of children and young people in the West Essex area with developmental, learning and behavioural difficulties

How it can help

The Community Paediatric Team work closely with other professionals in a multidisciplinary approach. In some cases they may assess and refer on to another organisation for management.

Some examples of conditions they assess, diagnose and support are:

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Chromosomal/Genetic Abnormalities
  • Degenerative Disorders
  • Global Developmental Delay
  • Neuromuscular Disorders
  • Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD/Dyspraxia)
  • Special Educational Needs
  • Learning Disability
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Social Communication Difficulties
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Age

0 to 18, or up to 19 for those who are attending a Special School

Eligibility

Children and young people who are registered with a GP in the West Essex area

How to access

Referral from a healthcare professional required, such as:

  • GP
  • Health Visitor
  • School Nurse
  • Therapist
  • Children's and Adolescent's Mental Health Service

 

Only GPs can refer to the ASD pathway.
