The team supports education settings to meet the needs of those with medical, physical or neurological impairments, which severely impact their ability to access the learning environment or curriculum
How it can help
The Physical and Neurological Impairment Specialist Teaching Team provide support to children and young people which can include:
- identifying what help they need
- giving advice for One Planning and Education and Health Care Plans (EHCP) on what your child or young person needs in their education setting
- giving advice to the education setting when your child or young person moves from one educational setting to another
- other advice, depending on the needs of the child or young person
The team supports staff in schools and settings. They can provide:
- advice on helping children with PNI to access the curriculum
- special equipment
- training on how to use certain pieces of education equipment
- advice on making changes so that your child or young person can take part at school (reasonable adjustments)
- general PNI awareness training
- training around the specific needs of your child with PNI in their setting or school

Eligibility
Children and young people who have a complex physical or neurological need or a complex medical need which means they require additional ongoing support and equipment
How to access
Requests for support are made by Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCOs), headteachers and Health professionals
