How it can help
Sailship TLL is a day opportunity provider for young people and adults with learning disabilities.
They train young people, with special educational needs/disabilities, towards employment, by offering ASDAN Employability qualifications at entry level 2 and 3 or level 1 and 2 utilising enterprise as subject matter to achieve criteria for the qualification.
Subjects taught to gain the qualification include:
- commercial horticulture
- preserves manufacture
- retail
- catering
- customer care and floristry.
They specialise in supporting people with a severe learning disability, requiring 1 to 1 support for learning or therapeutic activity.
School holiday clubs are run for young people aged 13+ with SEND support needs.
The charity also offers support to people for improved mental health and well-being, recovery from illness, or injury, through therapeutic programmes.
They also offer an Accessible Pathway for any member of the local community or Community Group to utilise for a gentle walk which takes the visitor around the Sailship site. Following the walk visitors can access the cafe for a healthy snack and drink. The pathway is funded by Active Essex and is a great way to enjoy a walk or guided tour. The Accessible Pathway visit must be booked in advance.
Also, a Care for carers support group runs every other Monday. They help to:
- improve mental health
- discuss tough topics
- learn to manage stress and anxiety
- meet others in similar situations
- learn coping skills
