Talk to your SENCO

First, talk to your child’s Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) about your concerns.

If you feel that the current school is not suitable, you can request changing to a special school as part of the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) annual review.

If your child is currently going through the EHC needs assessment process, you can express a preference for a particular school when the draft EHCP is issued.

Making the right choice of school is important. It can help to:

  • discuss your options with your child’s SENCO and the SEND Operations Team
  • make an appointment to visit the schools that you feel might meet your child’s needs
  • talk to the headteachers and other staff members
